Buckingham Palace, London, UK, Johnny Scott, Criminal Damage
London: So, there was this guy, Johnny Scott, who drove his car right into Buckingham Palace. Can you believe it? He caused over £24,000 in damage!
This happened back on March 9 last year. Johnny, who’s 26 and from Hornchurch, was a bit out of it when he crashed his VW Polo into the palace gates. The police had to step in and take him to the hospital.
The damage was pretty serious, with the palace’s black iron gates getting wrecked. In court, Johnny admitted to the charge of criminal damage. The prosecutor mentioned he seemed a bit dazed and kept saying he needed to fix things.
Luckily, no royals were home at the time, so that’s a relief. The police confirmed there were no injuries from the crash either.
The judge hinted that Johnny might not go to prison, suggesting a community service sentence could be more fitting. He’s got a good character, so that might help him out.
Before his next court date on February 13, they’re looking into his medical reports. After the crash, he was arrested and taken under the Mental Health Act, but the police said it wasn’t a terror-related incident.
While all this was going on, workmen had to come in and clear the car away, and they set up scaffolding to keep tourists safe while they checked the damage.
