Manchester: A former estate agent, Andrew Bone, faced the music today. He posted a racist tweet after England lost to Italy in the Euro 2020 final.
His tweet was aimed at players Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford. They missed penalties during the shootout, and Bone’s words were truly awful.
In court, he cried as he learned his fate. Bone got a six-week prison sentence, but it’s suspended for a year. He’ll also have to do 15 rehabilitation days.
Initially, he claimed his account was hacked. But the police proved he was lying. They tracked his phone to the location of the tweet.
Bone had no prior convictions, but he had a history of similar tweets. His past posts showed a pattern of racist comments.
His lawyer argued he was drunk when he sent the tweet. He said Bone was scared of going to jail and that his mother received hate mail because of him.
Bone now works as a plasterer and earns about £1,600 a month. After bills, he’s left with just a couple of hundred pounds.
After the incident, he lost his job at Savills. The company said they were investigating the matter seriously.
Public figures, including Prince William, condemned the racist abuse after the match. They called for accountability and an end to such behavior.
