Redditch: So, there was this really tragic incident on Christmas Eve. A 39-year-old guy got shot by armed police. It all started when they got a call about a man with a knife.
Police showed up at Fownhope Close around 2 PM because they were worried about the man’s safety. They even brought in a negotiator to talk things over, hoping to calm him down.
But after several hours of trying to resolve the situation, things took a turn. Around 7:40 PM, the police ended up shooting the man. He was the only one there at the time.
Sadly, he was pronounced dead shortly after 8 PM. The police said they were really concerned for his safety, which is why they responded the way they did.
Now, West Mercia Police have referred themselves to the Independent Office of Police Conduct, which is standard procedure after such incidents. Assistant Chief Constable Grant Wills expressed his condolences, saying it’s a tragic situation for everyone involved.
He reassured the community that they’re following all the right steps and will cooperate fully with the investigation, including sharing any body camera footage they have.
