Man, 35, arrested after woman dies in crash on main road

Huyton: A woman tragically lost her life after being struck by a car early Thursday morning. Emergency services rushed to the scene at the junction of Liverpool Road and Hillside Road around 4:40 AM.

The victim, identified as 59-year-old Catherine Dodd from Huyton, sadly died at the scene. Her family is receiving support from specialized officers as the investigation continues.

The driver, a 35-year-old man from the area, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He’s currently being questioned by the police.

Authorities have made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to prior police contact with the victim. Meanwhile, Liverpool Road remains closed in both directions, and drivers are advised to steer clear of the area.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, leading the investigation, expressed condolences to the victim’s family and urged anyone who might have witnessed the incident to come forward. If you were near the junction around that time, your dashcam footage could be crucial.
