Major Winter Storm Set to End 1,000+ Day Snowless Streak

A major winter storm is set to bring snow and ice, ending long snowless periods in several U.S. cities

Dallas: A big winter storm is hitting the U.S. this week, and it’s causing quite a stir. Snow is falling from Texas all the way to Virginia, leading to flight cancellations and travel delays.

For many places, this is the most snow they’ve seen in years. Some cities are about to break their record snow-free streaks that have lasted over 1,000 days. Can you believe that?

Texans were hunkered down indoors as the storm rolled in, bringing snow, freezing rain, and ice. It’s a real winter wonderland out there!

In Dallas, they’re expecting 5-10 cm of snow and ice, the most since February 2021. Nearby Little Rock, Arkansas, is gearing up for even more, with up to 15 cm expected. That’s a lot of snow!

Northern Mississippi and Alabama are also in for a treat, as they rarely see this kind of winter weather. Huntsville, Alabama, hasn’t had more than 5 cm of snow in nearly three years.

Eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina are bracing for wintry weather too, especially after the flooding from Hurricane Helene last September.

Charlotte, North Carolina, is on track to end its 1,076-day snowless streak. That’s the longest in the city’s history! Raleigh is in a similar situation, having not seen measurable snow since January 2022.

Even Washington, D.C., might get a light dusting of snow Friday night, but they’re still recovering from a big snowstorm earlier this week that dumped 20-30 cm.
