Bolton: So, there was quite a bit of chaos in Greater Manchester recently. Emergency services had to declare a major incident due to some serious flooding. It all kicked off early on New Year’s Day after heavy rain hit the area.

Bolton really took a hit, especially in places like Westhoughton and Turton. The fire service was super busy, responding to over 100 incidents and helping nearly 1,000 people get to safety. They even used boats to rescue folks from their homes and cars.

Luckily, there were no serious injuries or casualties reported, which is a relief. Now that the major incident status has been lifted, the focus has shifted to helping everyone recover and get back to normal.

Dave Russel, the Chief Fire Officer, mentioned how much damage the flooding caused and thanked everyone involved in the response. It’s great to see the community and emergency services working together like that.

Rick Jackson from Greater Manchester Police also said they’ll keep supporting local councils and agencies in the areas still affected. He emphasized the importance of safety and thanked the community for their cooperation during such a tough time.

Bolton Mountain Rescue was also on the scene, helping out at various emergencies, including a flooded hotel. It’s been a challenging start to the year for many, but the community spirit is shining through.
