Dublin: Exciting news for Terenure! A fresh housing development is in the works for the old Terenure College junior school lands. The Carmelite Order and the college have decided the land is no longer needed for their future plans.

This new project will bring 284 homes, including 19 houses and 265 apartments. The apartment buildings will vary in height, with the tallest reaching six stories. The houses will all have four bedrooms and will be between two and three stories tall.

As for the apartments, there will be a mix of units: ten studios, 117 one-bedroom, 129 two-bedroom, and nine three-bedroom apartments. The Carmelite Order is on board with this development, saying it will help secure the college’s future and allow for more activities.

Fr. Simon Nolan from the Carmelite Order mentioned that this project will provide a financial boost to Terenure College, ensuring it remains a viable secondary school. Plus, it will support the Order’s work in Ireland and beyond.

There’s also good news for the community! The development will include a creche, cultural and arts spaces, and amenities for residents. They’re planning to upgrade Fortfield Road and College Drive to improve traffic flow, with a separate application already in the works.

For parking, there will be 165 spaces for residents, along with 633 bike spots and 14 motorcycle spaces. A previous, larger application for this site was turned down, but this new plan is moving forward.

People can share their thoughts on the application until January 31, but the decision date is still pending. If you want to comment on the junction changes, you have until January 20, with a decision expected by February 10.
