Glasgow: A major route in the southside is closed due to a burst water main. This happened on Saturday, February 1, and caused flooding on Pollokshaws Road.
About 6,500 homes lost water when a 27-inch pipe burst. The road turned into a river, and shopkeepers had to sweep water from their doorsteps.
Some residents reported “dark brown filthy” water from their taps. A 1km stretch of Pollokshaws Road is still closed between Albert Drive and Cumberland Street.
Scottish Water is looking into reports of more water issues nearby. They think it might be from a smaller burst related to the repairs from Saturday.
Homes and businesses in Shawlands and Strathbungo were affected. Scottish Water says repairs are done, and water supplies are back on.
However, some areas like Queens Drive and Niddrie Square still had water issues on Sunday evening. Bottled water was delivered to those homes.
Scottish Water warned customers to expect low pressure and possible discolored water. They advised running the cold kitchen tap at half pressure until it runs clear.
Pollokshaws Road remains closed between Maxwell Road and Albert Drive. Diversions are in place as repairs continue.
Drivers should allow extra time for their journeys and follow traffic signs. Northbound diversions start at Coplaw Street, while southbound ones start at Devon Street.
Buses will also follow these new routes. Scottish Water thanked customers for their patience during this situation.
