Sydney: Commuters in Sydney are having a tough time with train services getting cancelled and delayed. This all started because of a pay dispute between the rail union and the NSW government.
On Wednesday, things got really messy. Hundreds of train services were cut, and Thursday didn’t look any better. The Electrical Trades Union and the Rail, Tram and Bus Union are still taking action, which means more cancellations.
Transport for NSW reported that only 16% of the morning trains were on time. That’s a staggering 80% that were either late or completely cancelled. It’s chaos out there!
On Wednesday morning alone, over 100 peak-hour services were cancelled. That’s about 25% of what was supposed to run. The T4 line, which connects the CBD to the eastern suburbs, saw delays of nearly five hours. Can you imagine?
Sydney Trains is advising everyone to plan for extra travel time. They’re warning that these delays and cancellations are likely to stick around for a while.
In a post on X, they said, “Lengthy delays, service cancellations, and very large service gaps on the rail network are expected to continue tomorrow.” They’re urging people to think twice about non-essential travel and to consider other transport options.
