Maharashtra: The state is set to make FASTag mandatory for all toll plazas starting April 1. This move is all about making things smoother and quicker for drivers. The government wants to cut down on those long lines and make toll collection more transparent.

The decision came from a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. They’re looking to improve traffic flow and save fuel by using electronic toll collection exclusively through FASTag. If you don’t have a FASTag or try to sneak into a FASTag lane without one, you’ll end up paying double the toll. Ouch!

FASTag is already a thing on national highways, so this is just a step to make it standard across Maharashtra. The goal is to make your drive less stressful and more efficient.

Right now, tolls are collected on 13 road projects managed by the Public Works Department and nine by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation. The new rules will apply to all these projects and any future ones too.

On top of that, the cabinet also made some changes to the state’s administrative rules to make things run smoother. They want to make governance more efficient and clear, which is always a good thing.

These updates will be published in the official gazette once the governor gives the thumbs up. The aim is to make everything more straightforward and beneficial for the people of Maharashtra.
