The pond is super important for the village, especially for the livestock. About 100 families rely on it for their animals. With the crocodile hanging around, folks are steering clear of the area. The village head, or sarpanch, has reached out for help to get the crocodile out safely.
The village is about 100 km from Alibag and has a population of over 2,000. The pond is also used for immersing idols, so there’s a lot at stake here. The deputy sarpanch, Haridas Karade, mentioned that the villagers are really worried about their safety and the animals.
They’ve contacted a local wildlife rescue group, SVRSS, known for helping with these kinds of situations. The team came out to check things out and set up a trap with fish to lure the crocodile in. They’re being careful to observe its behavior first, making sure they know when it’s most active.
The crocodile likely made its way from a nearby lake during high tide. The trap they set up is designed to close when the crocodile goes inside, so they’re hoping for a successful capture soon. It’s a bit of a waiting game now, but everyone’s hopeful they can resolve this without any drama.
