Germany: Christian Brueckner, the main suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, is thinking about leaving Europe. He’s even considering getting plastic surgery to change his looks.
Brueckner, who’s 47, is almost done with a seven-year prison sentence for a crime committed in the same area where Maddie went missing. His time in jail wraps up in September, but he might be out on day release soon unless something changes.
His lawyer mentioned they’ve talked about moving to a country without an extradition treaty, like Suriname. He even suggested Brueckner should think about changing his face so no one would recognize him.
Recently, a German prosecutor said there’s no current plan to charge him in the McCann case. Investigators are also looking into appealing his past acquittals on other charges, which could give them more time to build a case.
Brueckner hasn’t been charged in connection with Maddie’s disappearance and insists he had nothing to do with it. He’s reportedly upset about being labeled the prime suspect.
Madeleine vanished on May 3, 2007, while on vacation with her family in Praia da Luz, Portugal. Brueckner spent a lot of time in that area around the time she disappeared.
While he currently lacks the funds to escape, his lawyer is optimistic about a potential lawsuit against the German government that could lead to a hefty settlement. They’re hoping for millions, which could help finance his getaway.
