London: Emmanuel Macron will tell Sir Keir Starmer that attending the EU summit proves Brexit has failed. Macron sees Starmer as a leader returning to the EU due to Brexit’s negative impact on Britain.

Sources say the Brexit project aimed to create a global Britain but didn’t succeed. They believe the UK is inherently European, both geographically and economically.

Before the summit, Starmer stated that Brexit is settled. However, he wants a closer relationship with the EU on defense, security, energy, and trade.

Starmer aims to focus on defense, especially support for Ukraine. He will urge EU countries to increase their defense spending against threats from Russia.

While defense is a priority, questions remain about fishing rights and youth mobility agreements. The UK is reportedly close to a deal allowing under-30s to travel and work in the EU.

This youth mobility scheme is crucial for Starmer’s goal of closer EU ties. The plan could last up to three years, with the EU considering concessions.

Starmer has been warned that negotiations will be tough. He may face similar challenges as Boris Johnson did, with significant concessions required for a new relationship.

Poland’s foreign minister expressed that while Brexit can’t be reversed, the EU values the UK as a key partner in security and defense.

Starmer will call on European leaders to maintain pressure on Putin through sanctions and military support for Ukraine. He emphasizes the need to target energy revenues to weaken Russia’s war efforts.

He stated, “I’m here to work with our European partners to keep up the pressure on Putin’s war machine.”
