West Sussex: Rolls-Royce is making some big moves! They just announced a £300 million investment to expand their Goodwood factory. This comes after a record year for their luxury cars.
The company is looking to create more space to keep up with the growing demand for their high-end models. Even though they sold a bit less last year, they’re still seeing strong interest in their bespoke cars.
These unique models are designed just for individual clients, and they need special designers and engineers to bring them to life. Some of the coolest variations include a car inspired by the James Bond film “Goldfinger,” decked out in yellow and black with gold-plated features.
Rolls-Royce has also set up “private offices” in cities like New York and Dubai to cater to their wealthy clientele. Last year, customers in the Middle East bought the most high-value bespoke cars, while North America led in total sales.
They’re also seeing rapid growth in markets like Malaysia and Thailand. Although they haven’t said how many new jobs the expansion will create, it’s expected to give a nice boost to the local economy.
Plus, they’re gearing up for a shift to fully battery-electric vehicles. Currently, over 2,500 people work at the Goodwood site, including engineers and designers.
This £300 million investment is the biggest since the factory opened in 2003, which has ramped up production from just one car a day to 28!
On a different note, Vauxhall and Citroen’s owner, Stellantis, is shutting down its van factory in Luton, putting over 1,100 jobs at risk. They’re consolidating UK van manufacturing to focus on an all-electric hub in Cheshire.
Ford is also cutting about 800 jobs across the UK due to lower-than-expected demand for electric cars. It’s a tough time for some in the auto industry, but Rolls-Royce is definitely on the rise!
