London: This Lunar New Year, Greenwich Peninsula is gearing up for a fantastic celebration to welcome the Year of the Snake. It’s going to be a lively day filled with fun activities.
On February 1, the Peninsula will host a mix of free and ticketed events. You can expect everything from dazzling dances to hands-on workshops that highlight the rich culture of the lunar new year.
One of the main attractions will be the dragon and lion dances, which will parade through Peninsula Square and the Design District. These performances are not just entertaining; they’re meant to chase away bad luck and invite good fortune.
If you’re into crafts, Yi Crafts will be there to teach traditional East and Southeast Asian handcrafts. You can try your hand at bamboo weaving, knot-making, and even woodblock printing.
And for those who love games, there’s a chance to learn Mahjong, a classic Chinese game that’s all about strategy and fun.
Foodies will be in for a treat too! The Canteen Food Hall and Bar will serve delicious East Asian dishes, including authentic congee and youtiao. Plus, local tea experts will offer a special tea-tasting session.
Laura Flanagan, the Director at Greenwich Peninsula, shared her excitement about the event, saying it’s a great place to experience art and creativity. She emphasized that there’s something for everyone this year.
The event is supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and is a collaboration with Greenwich council and the Mayor of London. It’s super easy to get there, just a quick ride from London Bridge or a scenic boat trip.
