Chester: A panel of international experts has shared new medical evidence in Lucy Letby’s case. This evidence challenges her convictions for murdering babies while she worked as a neonatal nurse.

Dr. Shoo Lee, a Canadian professor, led the panel in London. He previously contributed to the prosecution’s case but now believes his research was misinterpreted. He wants to ensure the evidence against Letby is accurate.

Letby, 35, was convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to kill seven more between 2015 and 2016. She is serving 15 life sentences for these crimes.

Her legal team has applied to the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) to investigate her case again. They argue that the new evidence could show a miscarriage of justice.

The expert panel claims there is no proof of deliberate harm in the 17 cases. They suggest that natural causes or poor medical care might explain the incidents instead.

Dr. Lee’s findings challenge the prosecution’s claims about air embolisms. He argues that skin discoloration seen in some babies could have other causes, not just air embolism.

Letby’s legal team hopes this new evidence will allow them to appeal her convictions. The CCRC will review the evidence and decide if it warrants further investigation.
