Worcester: Exciting news for Lower Wick! A raised zebra crossing is set to be built outside the Co-op supermarket. This project kicks off this month, thanks to Cllr Alan Amos, who pushed for this change and secured funding.

Cllr Amos, who represents Lower Wick and Pitmaston, initially wanted to install bollards to protect folks using the cashpoint. But it turns out the land in front of the shop is privately owned, so that plan hit a snag.

He’s really keen on keeping residents safe while they shop at the Co-op. The new crossing will definitely help with that. The work is scheduled to start on January 20 and will cost around £100,000, with half of that coming from the Highways fund.

While checking out the site, Cllr Amos noticed some drivers parking on double yellow lines, which is a bit of a problem. The Co-op has its own car park, so it’s a bit puzzling why people park there. He believes the new crossing will help discourage that behavior.

As part of the project, they’ll also be raising a section of the dropped kerb. Cllr Amos hopes this will stop people from parking on the pavement or in front of the supermarket, especially near the cashpoint.

He’s optimistic that the zig-zag lines of the crossing will deter drivers from parking there, especially since it’s not allowed. Cllr Amos is all about making sure the crossing works effectively to keep everyone safe.

He’s been listening to residents’ concerns, especially from elderly folks who feel uneasy using the cash machine. Cllr Amos has been working hard to address these issues and is thrilled to see progress.

He’s had several meetings with locals to gather their thoughts on speeding problems in the area. After exploring various options, he feels they’ve landed on the best solution. He’s also committed to minimizing traffic disruption during construction.

Once the crossing is up, they’ll keep an eye on how well it works. If it doesn’t help with the parking issues, Cllr Amos is ready to consider other options. Fingers crossed this will encourage better parking habits!
