Rapides Parish: A 65-year-old man tragically lost his life due to hypothermia, and it’s been confirmed as weather-related by the Louisiana Department of Health.

They haven’t released his name yet, though. Earlier, the city of Alexandria decided to open a warming station at the Bolton Avenue Community Center. They’re trying to help folks stay warm during this cold snap.

The warming station is set to open from 2 p.m. Thursday until Monday, as temperatures are expected to rise again. It’s not designed for people with special medical needs, so visitors need to be able to take care of themselves.

They’ve got cots and Meals Ready to Eat (MREs) available. Just a heads up, if you’re planning to go, make sure you can move around on your own. Stay safe and warm out there!
