Garden City: Exciting news for locals! There’s a chance to check out plans for a new A494 River Dee Bridge. An exhibition is set for January 21 at St Andrew’s Church.

This event is part of a public consultation running until March 4. The bridge is super important for traffic between North Wales and England, handling around 68,400 vehicles daily. Sadly, it’s been showing signs of wear and tear.

Recent inspections have raised concerns about the need for repairs, which could lead to closures if not addressed. The Welsh Government is keen to hear from everyone, so they’re inviting folks to come by the exhibition from 10 am to 7 pm on January 21. You can chat with the project team and share your thoughts.

Ken Skates, the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, emphasized the importance of fixing our roads. He’s encouraging everyone who uses the bridge to participate in the consultation. It’s a vital part of North Wales’ road network, and your input matters!

The government has put forward what they believe is the best option, but there are several alternatives to consider. The top choice involves building a new bridge with two lanes for traffic and a path for cyclists and pedestrians, located southeast of the current bridge.

Construction will be planned to keep the road open as much as possible. There are also plans for improvements to the existing road, new access points, and better walking and cycling routes connecting to local paths.

Other options include different bridge designs and configurations, all aimed at enhancing travel and safety. The timeline for this project is also laid out, with key milestones leading up to the start of construction in 2026 and completion expected by 2029.

So, if you’re in the area, don’t miss the chance to get involved and see what’s in store for the future of the River Dee Bridge!
