London: So, there’s this doctor, Dr. Muhammad Mirza, who got into some serious trouble. He was locked up for scamming elderly folks out of a whopping £1.4 million. Now, he’s trying to get back on the medical register, but it’s not looking good for him.

The General Medical Council (GMC) recently turned down his request. They said he hasn’t really owned up to what he did or shown how he’d avoid being dishonest again. It seems like he’s still trying to downplay his actions, which isn’t sitting well with them.

Dr. Mirza, who became a doctor back in 1995, was found to be inconsistent in his statements. The tribunal noted that while he seemed to grasp the seriousness of his actions, he was also trying to shift some blame onto others. He claimed he didn’t fully understand the documents he was signing, which the tribunal didn’t buy.

Back in 2017, he was sentenced to 15 months in prison for creating a false impression and publishing misleading statements about his company, Symbiosis Healthcare. This company was supposed to provide healthcare solutions, but it looks like it was more about lining his pockets.

He had a big role in misleading investors, especially the 297 mostly elderly ones who thought they were investing in something real. Instead, he knew the shares were worthless. After being struck off the medical register, he’s now saying he’s a changed man and has even paid back the victims.

He’s taken some professional training and promised not to get involved in any financial dealings if he gets reinstated. But the GMC isn’t convinced. They think he’s still not fully grasping the impact of his actions on others and the medical profession.

In the end, the tribunal decided he can’t come back just yet. He’ll have to wait a whole year before he can even think about reapplying. It’s a tough lesson for him, but it seems like he’s still got a long way to go.
