Locals Upset Over Rising Caravan Trend in Beachside Suburbs
Residents in beachside suburbs are frustrated with caravans taking up parking spaces, calling it inconsiderate during the busy holiday season

Bokarina Beach: People living in beachside areas of Australia are getting pretty annoyed. Caravans and campervans are taking up valuable parking spots, especially with summer road trips on the rise.
As the holiday season rolls in, locals near Bokarina Beach are calling it “inconsiderate” to see these big vehicles parked on their streets instead of in proper caravan parks. It’s frustrating when they can’t find a spot for their own cars.
One resident even shared a photo of a caravan parked in a designated spot, which is supposed to be for regular cars. With parking already tight, it’s a real hassle for those who live there.
“We’re struggling to find parking as it is, and we don’t need long-term campers taking up our spaces,” one local said. They pointed out that camping outside designated areas isn’t allowed in Queensland anymore.
Some folks online even suggested that people are using their caravans while parked in residential areas, which adds to the frustration.
It seems this caravan parking issue isn’t just a local problem. It’s becoming a bigger deal across the Sunshine Coast and even further north in Noosa, where complaints are piling up.
According to a reporting app, the problem is spreading, and it’s clear that beachside suburbs are seeing more caravanners than ever. It’s a trend that’s causing quite a stir.
While Noosa is cracking down on long-term caravan parking, the Sunshine Coast Council says they can’t do much about street parking since it’s legal. They explained that registered vehicles can park on the road unless there are specific restrictions.
However, there are rules to follow. Caravans must leave enough space for other vehicles and can’t park too close to intersections or in no-parking zones. If they don’t, they could get hit with a fine.
Another local chimed in, saying that while it’s not illegal, visitors should really think about using caravan parks instead of taking up residents’ parking spots.
“It’s just inconsiderate to park in areas where parking is already limited,” they said. Others agreed, noting that it’s tough when friends come to visit and can’t find a place to park.
Across Australia, while parking caravans on residential streets is allowed, larger vehicles over 7.5 meters can’t be parked there for long. One family almost faced a hefty fine for breaching this rule after parking their caravan outside a friend’s house.
The Sunshine Coast Council is urging travelers to find approved storage sites for larger vehicles during the busy summer season. They want to avoid any legal issues for those visiting.
So, if you’re planning a trip to the area, keep these parking rules in mind to avoid any headaches!
