Wrexham: So, a bunch of fed-up residents in the Ceiriog Valley decided to get creative. They’ve set up something called ‘Pothole Land’ to draw attention to the terrible state of their road.

For five long years, these folks have been dealing with potholes that are practically craters. Last week, they came up with this fun idea to make a statement. They even put up a sign claiming their potholes are the “deepest, longest, and widest in Wales.”

The sign invites visitors to enjoy “two kilometers of potholes with very little actual road to spoil your fun.” It’s all in good humor, but the message is serious. They want Wrexham County Borough Council to step up and fix the roads.

Russell Kirk, one of the residents, shared that some potholes are so deep they could swallow a Mini. It’s not just a nuisance; it’s affecting their daily lives. Sometimes, the garbage collectors won’t even pick up the trash because of the road conditions.

They’re worried about emergency services being able to reach them, especially for the elderly residents in the area. Plus, many have had to shell out cash for car repairs due to the potholes. Russell has lived there for over five years, and nothing has changed.

Despite reporting the issue multiple times, they’ve heard crickets from the council. It’s not just their neighborhood, either; councils across the UK are struggling with similar problems.

In fact, some councils are even considering cutting back on parks and other services just to manage costs. Last year, 19 councils had to sell off property to keep things running.

Russell and his neighbors are hoping to raise awareness and push for more funding from the government to tackle these pothole issues. They designed the sign and banner together to get the word out.

Interestingly, they’ve received support from people outside their community too. Someone even traveled just to see their sign! Wrexham County Borough Council has been contacted for a response, but they say repairs depend on budget and survey data.

Potholes are a big deal in the UK, costing drivers a staggering £579 million to fix. They’re not just a hassle for cars; they can be dangerous for cyclists and motorcyclists too.
