Greater Manchester: This week, temperatures plummeted to a chilling –7C, marking the coldest night of winter so far. It’s been a rough ride with weather warnings all around.

Manchester Airport even had to shut down its runways for over an hour. And if that wasn’t enough, frozen pedestrian crossing buttons caused a bit of a traffic nightmare in Rochdale and Oldham.

Looking ahead, it seems like the temperatures will creep up a bit this weekend, but don’t get too comfy. We’re still expecting lows of –1C today.

For Saturday and Sunday, there are no weather warnings, but it’ll still be chilly. Saturday kicks off with some sunshine, but clouds will roll in later, bringing a chance of rain and sleet. Highs will be around 2C, dropping to -2C overnight.

Freezing fog might pop up in some areas, but it should clear for most. Sunday looks a tad warmer with highs of 5C, starting off cloudy but clearing up to some sunny intervals by late morning.

As for next week, it’s looking a lot milder, but don’t forget your umbrella! The Met Office warns of wind and rain, especially on Monday, with breezy conditions continuing into Tuesday and Wednesday.
