Conwy: The council has put together a list of roads to look at for a possible speed limit change. This comes after the Welsh Government kicked off a review of the 20mph limit that was rolled out last September. There was quite a bit of pushback from folks about it.

So, the government came up with new guidelines on which roads could be exceptions and go back to 30mph. While councils have always had the power to make these changes, the previous guidance from the government faced some criticism.

Now, after the new guidelines were shared, Conwy has consulted with local residents about potential changes. They’ve created a list of roads that will be reviewed, and it includes quite a few spots.

Some of the roads on the list are the B5115 from Colwyn Bay to Llandudno, Bryn Lupus Road, and Rhos Promenade. There are also others like Glan y Mor Road and various routes in the area.

What’s next? Conwy council plans to gather data on traffic speeds and flows, plus look at past road traffic collisions. If they think a speed limit change might be a good idea, they’ll chat with local residents and emergency services to get their thoughts.

If everyone’s on board, they’ll go through the Traffic Regulation Order process, which includes more consultations. Finally, if everything checks out, they’ll put up new speed limit signs where needed.
