Lincoln’s council housing rents are set to increase, impacting many residents starting this April

Lincoln: So, it looks like rent for social housing in Lincoln is going up by at least £79 starting in April. The City of Lincoln Council is planning a 2.7% increase, which is set to kick in with the new financial year.
This year’s hike is actually the smallest in four years, mainly because inflation has dropped a bit. For a one-bedroom place, which is the most common, you’ll be paying an extra £79 for the year.
If you have a two-bedroom flat, expect to see an increase of about £88.34. For three bedrooms, it’s around £97.53, and for four bedrooms, it’ll be about £103.85. That breaks down to an extra £2 to £3 a week, which isn’t too bad, right?
Now, if you’re looking at affordable rent properties, those are going up too. A one-bedroom will see an increase of about £128, while a five-bedroom could jump by as much as £234.
In total, there are around 7,300 social-rent properties in Lincoln, plus another 440 that fall under affordable rent. Oh, and if you rent a garage, that’s going up by three percent to about £9.27 a week.
The council will discuss this proposed increase at their Executive meeting next week, on January 20, before it gets the final nod from the full council.
Just a heads up, the limits on how much social housing rents can go up are linked to inflation, which is set at 2.7% for this year. In the past two years, the council raised it by 6.5% and 7.7%, so this year’s increase is a bit of a relief.
