Life in Preston’s Fishwick: A Neighbourhood Struggling with Yobs and Litter
Residents in Preston’s Fishwick area express frustration over drug use and littering

Preston: Residents in Fishwick are really upset about their neighbourhood. They often find syringes and condoms on the streets. It’s not a pretty sight.
People are tired of yobs drinking, using drugs, and urinating in public. There’s also a problem with fly-tipping. Mattresses and other trash are dumped everywhere.
Gemima Awake, 25, shared her concerns. She said, “Rubbish is always being dumped. I’ve seen people drinking and doing drugs under a bridge.”
Melissa Somers, a mom with a baby, called the area a “s***hole.” She believes too many young people are getting into trouble.
Iffat Ayub, another resident, mentioned seeing groups of men sitting on a wall near her home. It’s become a common sight.
New rules are coming to tackle the antisocial behaviour in Fishwick. Some residents hope these changes will help clean up their area.
One couple complained about their Christmas wreath being stolen. They said they can’t leave anything outside because it will get taken.
The situation is serious. Preston Council might ban drinking on the streets to address the problem. They’re considering a public spaces protection order (PSPO) to help.
PSPOs have been effective since 2014 in reducing antisocial behaviour. They can be enforced by police or council officers.
A council spokesperson said they’re looking into this due to many complaints. They want to address the antisocial behaviour affecting residents.
