Ottawa: So, it looks like the Liberals are in a bit of a pickle. With a leadership race wrapping up in March, they really need to get their act together for an early election.
Several cabinet ministers and MPs have decided not to run again, which isn’t great news. Right now, the Liberals have only nominated 129 candidates for the 343 federal ridings. Meanwhile, the Conservatives are way ahead with nearly 221 candidates, and the New Democrats have 93.
Randy Besco, a political science professor at the University of Toronto, thinks the new Liberal leader will have to hustle to get their campaign organized. It might be tricky since some senior folks from Trudeau’s office might not want to stick around with a new leader at the helm.
Finding candidates shouldn’t be too hard, but snagging some big names could be a challenge. The Conservatives are holding a solid lead in the polls, which makes things even tougher for the Liberals.
