Liberals Divided on Leadership Race as Trudeau Prepares to Step Down

Ottawa: So, Justin Trudeau is stepping down as prime minister and Liberal leader, and everyone’s buzzing about who might take his place. It’s a big deal, right? The clock is ticking since Parliament is back in session soon.
Some folks think the leadership race should happen fast, while others worry that a quick process won’t give party members enough time to really get to know the candidates. It’s a tricky balance.
No one has officially thrown their hat in the ring yet, but there’s plenty of chatter about potential contenders. Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly is a name that keeps popping up, especially after a recent profile in the New York Times.
Then there’s former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, who stepped down just before Christmas, sparking more calls for Trudeau to go. It’s all very dramatic!

Interestingly, former Montreal MP Frank Baylis has already said he wants to run for the leadership. He’s the first to make it official, which is pretty bold!
