Lewisham: The Cabinet has seen some changes after two councillors resigned. Cllr Kim Powell and Cllr Chris Barnham have stepped down from their roles.

Mayor Brenda Dacres confirmed the news. Cllr Powell, who was in charge of Business, Jobs, and Skills, resigned immediately after four years in the position.

While the reason for her departure isn’t clear, she will still represent Hither Green as a councillor. Mayor Dacres thanked her for her hard work during a crucial time.

Under Cllr Powell, many residents benefited from Lewisham Works, a free employment service. The Mayor also highlighted the growth of the Mayor’s Business Awards and the Inclusive Economic Development Strategy.

Meanwhile, Cllr Chris Barnham, who has served as the Cabinet Member for Children and Young People for six years, will leave after the council’s budget meeting on March 5.

He will continue to serve as a councillor for Crofton Park. Mayor Dacres praised his dedication and the positive impact he made on local schools and families.

New appointments have been made to fill the gaps. Cllr Ese Erheriene will take over the Business, Jobs, and Skills role, while Cllr Edison Huynh will handle Culture and Communities.

Mayor Dacres expressed her excitement about working with the new team. She believes they will continue to make a difference for the residents of Lewisham.
