Hampshire: The Government has made it clear. Councils need capacity and stability. They must be ready to negotiate devolution by April 2026.
During a debate, even Lib Dem members agreed. Holding elections in May isn’t feasible.
If elections continue in May, Hampshire risks losing its place in the devolution program. This could lead to council reorganization before devolution starts.
Such a situation means fewer powers from the Government. It also means less funding and more chaos for everyone involved.
Cllr Nick Adams-King, the leader of Hampshire County Council, highlighted these concerns. He represents several areas, including Romsey Rural.
