Leigh: The Sarah Moore pub was facing closure last October when the owners were told it would be turned into housing. The news hit the team hard.
On January 4, locals threw a closing down party to say goodbye. It was a bittersweet moment, but the community really showed up.
After all the sadness, there’s good news! The landlords, Will and Charley, just got a new one-year lease, with a chance to extend it to ten years.
They’re planning a grand reopening on January 20, and everyone’s excited. Will mentioned that they’ll be the only fully independent pub in Leigh now.
They’re also looking to revamp their branding and work with local breweries to offer more variety. Sounds like a fun shake-up!
Since taking over in December 2022, they were worried about finding a new place after the owner decided to redevelop. But now, the ground floor will stay commercial, which is a relief.
Will and Charley have a year to prove they can make the pub successful without the backing of a big brewery. They’re optimistic and know they’ll need community support.
With no one to answer to, they can offer better prices, which is a win for everyone. They’re also keen to collaborate with other local businesses, which is great for the community.
