Leicester: A staff member from Leicester City shared a chilling experience from a tragic helicopter crash. Martin Wicks described how he yelled at a colleague to move as the helicopter, carrying the club’s chairman, spiraled out of control just after takeoff.

Wicks was near the King Power Stadium when he heard a strange noise. He quickly realized the helicopter was in trouble. He saw it crash and burst into flames, creating a thick black cloud of smoke that pushed back the police.

He mentioned that the helicopter seemed to land softly at first, but everything felt surreal, almost like slow motion. He could make out shapes inside but couldn’t see clearly. Another staff member, John Ledwidge, also witnessed the crash. He ran towards the scene, worried it might come back down or hit the stadium.

Ledwidge described the fire as an “orange glow” and felt guilty for not being able to do more. He remembered seeing a police officer trying to break the helicopter’s window to help. Afterward, he comforted his team, shaken by the event.

The crash was caused by a small bearing failure, which led to the pilot losing control. The inquest is still ongoing, revealing more about the tragic incident and its aftermath.
