Los Angeles: So, LeBron James just turned 40, right in the middle of his 22nd NBA season. He mentioned that if he really wanted to, he could keep playing at a high level for another 5 to 7 years. But here’s the kicker—he’s not planning on it.

Talking to reporters on his birthday, he said he feels good about his eventual retirement. He’s not leaving because he can’t play anymore; it’s more about when he feels it’s time. He’s got a solid relationship with the Lakers and sees himself finishing his career there.

LeBron’s been in the league for so long, and he’s still setting records, like being the player with the most minutes played. Turning 40 made him reflect a bit, and he joked about how it’s wild to think he started as an 18-year-old kid and now he’s here, still going strong.

This season, he’s averaging 23.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 9.0 assists. Only Nikola Jokic is putting up better numbers. The Lakers just made some moves to improve their roster, and LeBron thinks they have a shot at competing, even if he doesn’t see them as championship-ready just yet.

He’s aware that whenever he decides to hang up his sneakers, it’s going to be tough. “I would miss the hell out of it,” he said, and honestly, who wouldn’t? It’s been quite a ride for him.
