Tampa Bay: Shaquil Barrett is back with the Buccaneers after a surprising five-month retirement. It’s great to see him return!

The linebacker, who’s 32, had a solid five seasons with the Bucs before he was released last February. He signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins but never played for them since he retired just before training camp. Barrett mentioned on Instagram that he wanted to focus on family after a long NFL career.

After retiring, he was put on the Dolphins’ reserve/retired list. Recently, Miami waived him, which means he can now sign with any team. It looks like he’ll be back on the Buccaneers’ active roster soon, pending a physical.

During his time with Tampa, Barrett made quite an impact. He was named to two Pro Bowls and was a second-team All-Pro. He even led the NFL with 19.5 sacks in 2019! Plus, he was part of two Super Bowl-winning teams, with the Broncos and the Buccaneers.

Barrett had hinted at a possible return before, saying Tampa holds a “special place” in his heart. The Bucs’ general manager also spoke positively about him after his release, so it seems like this reunion was meant to be.

As for the Buccaneers, they’re currently tied for the top spot in the NFC South with the Falcons. They need to win their last two games to secure a playoff spot, so Barrett’s return could be just what they need!
