Barnet: The National League club is making moves to return to its old stomping grounds. They played in Barnet for over a century before relocating to Harrow in 2013. Now, they’re gearing up to submit a planning application for the ‘New Underhill’ stadium.

The club has shared fresh designs and plans for the stadium, which will hold about 7,000 fans. They want to build it on the south side of Barnet Playing Fields, a change from the original northern site. This new spot is said to be better for the local community and the nearby Ark Pioneer Academy.

In their statement, Barnet FC mentioned that the new location allows for more greenery and nature-friendly features. They’re planning to plant trees on the east side, so local residents can still enjoy nature views. Plus, the stadium will be sunken into the ground, keeping the height to just one story on that side.

While the design has evolved after two public consultations, some locals are still worried. They’re concerned about the impact on the Green Belt and what benefits the stadium will bring for those who aren’t football fans. Robin Bishop from Barnet Society pointed out that moving the stadium could still harm the environment and local residents.

Despite the concerns, the club is hopeful about submitting their application to Barnet Council by the end of the year. It’s a big step for them, and they’re eager to get back to their roots.
