Large police cordon on Smithdown Road as man in hospital after assault

Liverpool: A man in his fifties was arrested after a serious assault near Smithdown Road last night. The police got a call around 11 PM about an incident on Egerton Road involving two men.

The victim suffered some serious head injuries and was rushed to the hospital. Thankfully, he’s in serious but stable condition now. The two attackers managed to flee before the police arrived.

Later, a 50-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of wounding. He’s being questioned by detectives as the investigation unfolds.

Police are actively looking into this case, doing house-to-house inquiries, checking CCTV, and talking to witnesses in the area. Detective Inspector Mike Fletcher is urging anyone who was around Egerton Road last night to come forward.
