Steiner admitted he never thought a wildfire could reach the Pacific Coast Highway and threaten his home. “I thought earthquakes were our biggest worry,” he said.
He was shocked to see his house still standing when he got updates from a contractor who was keeping an eye on the flames. At one point, it looked like his home was doomed.
As the fire raged, friends reached out, worried about him. But when photos started coming in, it was clear his house had survived, surrounded by destruction.
Steiner was grateful but kept things in perspective. “It’s just stuff,” he said. “Others lost their homes, and that’s heartbreaking.”
While his Malibu house is significant, it’s not where his family keeps their cherished memories. “I’m just glad my family is safe,” he added, showing empathy for those who lost everything.
His wife even sent him a message saying, “Last house standing,” which brought a smile to his face during such a tough time.
