Dallas: So, the Mavericks are in a bit of a pickle. Luka Doncic is already out for a few weeks with a calf strain, and now Kyrie Irving is sidelined too. Reports say he’ll be out for at least 1-2 weeks because of a bulging disc in his back. Not great news, right?
Shams Charania and Tim MacMahon from ESPN broke the news, and it sounds like the team is still figuring out how to handle this. They don’t have a set return date yet, and honestly, that 1-2 week estimate might be a bit too hopeful. History shows that these disc issues can take longer to heal.
Jeff Stotts, a guy who knows his stuff about injuries, pointed out that players usually miss around 29 days for similar issues. That’s about 12 games! Ouch. And we still don’t know how Kyrie got hurt in the first place.
Irving has already missed two of the last three games, which is a bummer because he and Doncic are the Mavericks’ main scorers. They lost both those games by a lot, too. Kyrie has been having a solid season, averaging over 24 points a game and shooting really well from three-point range. He’s been a key player for Dallas, especially since they made it to the NBA Finals last season.
Now, the Mavericks have a tough schedule coming up. They’ll be facing some strong teams in the West, like the Grizzlies, Lakers, and Nuggets. If they keep losing, they could drop quickly in the standings. Right now, they’re sitting at sixth in the conference, but that could change fast.
