Minneapolis: The Vikings made a bold move by trading up to snag J.J. McCarthy at No. 10 overall, hoping he’d be their future quarterback.
Even though he didn’t get to play his rookie year due to a knee injury, there’s a chance he could step in as the starter by 2025.
General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah shared in a recent press conference that McCarthy is doing well after his meniscus tear.
“He’s back on the field, throwing and training,” Adofo-Mensah said, mentioning he saw McCarthy working hard at the facility. “He looks great and is super excited. This kid is just obsessed with football and loves being around it. We’re really looking forward to what he’ll bring this offseason.”
Even though McCarthy only played in the first preseason game, he spent the whole season learning and growing, which Adofo-Mensah called a “great mental year.”
“It’s like a redshirt year, but he learned so much compared to previous years,” Adofo-Mensah noted. “We’re really confident in his work ethic and preparation.”
So, would the Vikings feel good about him starting in 2025?
“I can’t say for sure,” Adofo-Mensah admitted. “But I believe in the person we have. That position needs talent and preparation, and he’s got both. If we decide to go that route, we’ll do it confidently.”
