United started chatting about a new contract for him last March, but things hit a snag. Now, there’s a bit of uncertainty about what’s next for him. The club needs to sort out their finances under those profit and sustainability rules, which makes things tricky.
Even though there’s been some back and forth, Mainoo is focused on his game. He’s been doing well for both United and the England squad. Last year, he didn’t feel rushed to finalize anything since he hit some performance bonuses in his current deal, but now they really need to come to a resolution.
Talks are still on the table, and Mainoo’s camp thinks he deserves a better deal given how well he’s been playing lately. He signed a new contract in February 2023 that runs until 2027, with an option for another year, so the club doesn’t want to lose him.

Mainoo has been one of the standout players from the academy, especially after Alejandro Garnacho’s rise. He made his Premier League debut against Everton in November 2023 and had a fantastic season, even making it to the England squad for Euro 2024.
