White Plains: Knicks rookie Tyler Kolek just snagged the G League Showcase MVP title after helping Westchester clinch their second Winter Cup in a row. They took down the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Sunday night, and Kolek was a key player.
He really showed up, especially after a long trip from New Orleans where the Knicks played just hours before. Coming off the bench, he scored 22 points, shot 9-of-16, and racked up 11 assists along with five rebounds in just 21 minutes. Not too shabby!
After the game, he joked about his performance, saying it felt like getting an A on a group project he joined last minute. He gave a big shoutout to his teammates, calling them family and saying it’s been a blast playing with them.
The Knicks are getting a lot of love for picking him up in the second round of the draft from Marquette. He really shined during the Summer League and earned his spot on the pro team, even if he’s been getting limited minutes.
They’ve been moving him between the G League and the NBA roster to keep him sharp. With veteran guard Landry Shamet coming back from injury, it’ll be interesting to see if they keep Kolek in the G League for a bit longer.
