It was his first game back at the Target Center since the trade that ended his nine-year run with the Timberwolves. The crowd welcomed him with open arms, cheering loudly as he took the court.
In a bit of a twist, Towns led the Knicks to a 133-107 blowout win over his former team, scoring 32 points and grabbing 20 rebounds. Talk about a statement game!
Despite the cheers for Towns, the crowd wasn’t too kind to Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau, who had a rocky history with the Timberwolves. But Towns soaked up the love, smiling as he heard the cheers.
He was on fire, shooting 10-of-12 from the field and hitting all five of his three-point attempts. His performance was a reminder of why he’s still a beloved figure in Minnesota.
The trade that sent him to New York stirred up some debate. The Timberwolves had a great season last year, but the front office decided to shake things up. Towns wasn’t exactly thrilled about leaving, especially after signing an extension to stay.
So far, he’s been killing it this season, averaging nearly 25 points and leading the league in rebounds. It looks like he’s found his groove with the Knicks!
