SANTA CLARA: So, George Kittle is really gunning for those receiving records, huh? He’s got one season left on his contract with the 49ers, and he’s ready to make it count.
He’s not just looking to finish strong; he wants to leave a mark. Kittle’s got his sights set on overtaking Terrell Owens to snag the No. 2 spot for receptions and yards in 49ers history.
Now, he’s realistic about it. Kittle knows he probably won’t catch Jerry Rice, and he’s cool with that. He’s just focused on his game and what he can achieve.
Currently, he’s sitting at third place with 528 catches and 7,241 yards. Owens, during his time with the 49ers, had 592 catches for 8,572 yards. Kittle’s definitely within reach!
This season, he’s been one of the standout players for the 49ers, who are struggling with a 6-9 record. He leads the team with 68 catches, 967 yards, and eight touchdowns.
Kittle aims for around 75 catches, 1,000 yards, and 10 touchdowns each year. If he can grab just 33 more yards in the last two games, he’ll hit that 1,000-yard mark for the fourth time.
Only a handful of tight ends have done that in NFL history, so he’s in good company. But Kittle isn’t too caught up in the stats or Hall of Fame talk just yet.
He’s more focused on enjoying his time with the 49ers. Kittle loves being part of this storied franchise and hopes to keep playing here for a while.
As for his contract situation, he’s got one season left on that five-year deal worth $75 million. He’s set to make $15 million in 2025, so there’s a lot to think about in the offseason.
But when asked about it, Kittle just smiled and said to save those questions for later. He’s all about playing until he can’t anymore or until his wife says it’s time to hang up the cleats.
In his own words, “I love where I’m at. It’s a great place.” Sounds like he’s ready to keep making memories with the 49ers!
