INDIANAPOLIS: So, guess what? State Rep. Joanna King from Middlebury just got a big promotion! She’s now part of the Indiana House of Representatives’ majority leadership team as the deputy speaker pro tempore.

This is a pretty cool deal because it makes her the highest-ranking woman on the Republican leadership team, which has 14 members. House Speaker Todd Huston picked her for the role, and now she can step in for him during House sessions.

King expressed her excitement, saying she’s all about being the voice for the folks in House District 49. She feels honored to be part of the leadership team and is eager to help make Indiana a great place for families.

But that’s not all! She’s also been appointed to a few House standing committees. She’ll be working on the House Courts and Criminal Code Committee, the House Government and Regulatory Reform Committee, and the House Public Health Committee.

These committee appointments happen every two years after the November elections, so she’s set for her term. Huston mentioned that they have a strong leadership team and are ready to tackle important issues for Hoosiers.

Mark your calendars! The House lawmakers will kick off the 2025 legislative session on January 8 at 1:30 p.m. If you want to keep up with what’s happening, you can check out iga.in.gov for all the details.

King also encourages everyone to sign up for her e-newsletter at in.gov/h49 to stay updated on Statehouse happenings throughout the session and beyond.
