They hit pause on trading back in July 2020 when the government was looking to renationalize the airline during the pandemic. It was a tough time for everyone, especially for airlines. But now, that plan has been scrapped, and Kenya Airways is actually turning a profit again for the first time in ages.
The Nairobi Securities Exchange said the suspension is officially lifted as of January 5, 2025. Can you believe it? After years of struggling with debt, they reported a net profit of 513 million shillings, which is about $4 million, for the first half of 2024.
Founded in 1977, Kenya Airways, known as “The Pride of Africa,” flies millions of passengers to various destinations every year. Air France-KLM has been a part of the company since 1996, but their stake has shrunk over the years as the airline has battled financial issues. The Kenyan government still holds a significant share, but it’s been a rocky road for them. It’s great to see some positive news finally!
