Chris McEleny, the party’s general secretary, tried to suspend MacAskill. He claimed it was due to allegations of bullying and harassment. But MacAskill called this move unauthorized and unconstitutional.
MacAskill, a former SNP Justice Secretary, is running against Ash Regan for the party leadership. McEleny sent an email saying MacAskill was suspended until the investigation was complete.
MacAskill responded, saying McEleny overstepped his authority. He stated that the national executive committee rejected the suspension attempt. Now, the matter is being handled internally, and he won’t comment further.
An Alba spokesperson confirmed that the proposal was unauthorized and rejected by the NEC. They added that the situation is now under internal review, so they can’t say more.
