London: Tory leader Kemi Badenoch met with King Charles at Buckingham Palace. This was a special one-on-one meeting, the first of its kind in 19 years.
The King welcomed her for a 30-minute chat. This meeting marks a return to a tradition that had been missing for a while.
The last opposition leader to have a formal audience was David Cameron in 2006. It’s unclear why this tradition stopped during Labour’s time in opposition.
A royal source mentioned that it was a courtesy to revive this convention in the new reign. The King meets with the Prime Minister weekly to discuss government matters.
Recently, Badenoch called out rivals Reform UK, labeling them a “protest party.” Nigel Farage warned her he would challenge her seat in the next election.
Farage gathered 400 supporters in her constituency, North West Essex, on Brexit’s fifth anniversary. Latest polls show Reform UK in second place, just ahead of the Tories.
Despite the competition, Badenoch focused on important issues, like family farm tax, during her visit to a farm in Cheshire.
