Following this shocking event, police have stepped up their presence in the area. They’ve put in place special orders that give them more power to stop and search people, especially those wearing disguises. This is all to prevent any further violence.
These measures will last for 24 hours, starting from 4 PM on Thursday, covering Woolwich and nearby areas like Plumstead. The police are taking this seriously, as they’ve expressed concerns about rising youth violence after Kelyan’s death.
In a post on X, the Greenwich Borough unit of the Met Police mentioned they’ve activated a Section 60 due to worries about serious youth violence in the area. They aim to prevent crime and keep everyone safe.
Kelyan’s mother shared her heartbreak, revealing that her son had been groomed by gangs after running away from care and living on the streets. She said, “My son and others were taken advantage of by gangs.”
The 14-year-old’s death has sparked a lot of discussions online, especially since another teenager, Daejaun Campbell, was also stabbed in Woolwich just a few months earlier.
While the police are investigating, they’ve stated that there’s no evidence linking the two cases so far.
There was also another stabbing incident in Woolwich recently, but it’s not believed to be connected to Kelyan’s murder.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. If you know something, you can call the police or reach out to Crimestoppers anonymously.
Last year, London saw a troubling number of teenage deaths, with many being victims of stabbings. It’s a serious issue that needs attention.
