Keighley: Shoplifting in the town centre is back to where it was in 2019. Other crimes are still below pre-pandemic levels.

Local Councillors from the Bradford Council’s Keighley and Ilkley Area Committee will meet Thursday. They’ll get updates from the Neighbourhood Policing Team about crime in the area.

A report for the committee shows overall crime has dropped by 1.7% in the past year. Keighley has seen a slight year-on-year reduction in crime overall.

From April to December 2024, there were 6,804 crimes reported. That’s 131 fewer than the same time last year, which had 6,935 crimes.

While some crime types are rising, most are still below pre-pandemic levels. However, theft from shops in Keighley Central has returned to pre-pandemic levels.

This type of theft has increased year on year for the last five years. It now matches the rates seen in 2018 and 2019.
