Keady: A new group called Keady 4 All is stepping up to bring the community together. They’re planning their first public meeting at the end of January.

This group is made up of locals who have been active in the town for a while, including Councillor Bróna Haughey. She mentioned that the idea for the group came up during a chat with the Irish Language Preschool committee.

Bróna said they noticed a real demand for community activities after hosting events like a tractor run. Parents were eager for more opportunities, and she believes Keady has tons of potential.

However, she pointed out that some community projects have struggled lately due to busy schedules and other issues. The goal of Keady 4 All is to create a central hub where everyone can access information and support for community projects.

Bróna describes Keady as a “fantastic” place and is keen to hear what the public wants. To gather input, they’re hosting a meeting at the Tommy Makem Arts Centre on January 30, 2025, at 8 PM.

During the meeting, everyone is welcome to share their thoughts on what they’d like to see in Keady. They’ll break into focus groups to discuss various topics, from wellbeing to sports and community inclusion.

Bróna also mentioned they’ll touch on arts, festivals, and environmental issues, aiming for quick discussions to gather as many ideas as possible.

After this meeting, the Keady 4 All team hopes to create a Development Plan to help secure funding for future projects. They’ve already had a preliminary meeting with enthusiastic locals eager to get involved.

Among those interested are Councillor Ashley Mallon, Lily McAtavey, who helped organize a record-breaking event for Cancer Research, and several local business owners.

Bróna emphasized the need for cohesion in the community, as there’s a lot happening in Keady, but not everyone knows about it. They want to tackle issues that affect everyone.

They’re also gauging interest in reviving the St Patrick’s Festival and figuring out how to make it happen if there’s enough enthusiasm.

This Sunday, January 19, the group will have a promotional day and invites the public to help distribute leaflets. Interested folks can meet at ‘The Trap’ car park near St Patrick’s Chapel at 1 PM.
